Volunteer Opportunities

The cornerstone of our organization is people!   While we work to raise funds from a variety of sources, people are a treasured commodity!

IRC needs you!  All rowers, friends and family of rowers and sports enthusiasts are welcome to volunteer at our events, or just around the boathouse on a beautiful day.  There is plenty of work for everyone!

IRC Members are required to complete 8 volunteer hours per membership year.  Adult Rowers are asked to volunteer an additional 4 hours for the year, while Masters Rowers are an additional 8 hours for the year.  IRC is happy to accept your help whenever you are available.  Volunteer opportunities are boathouse clean-up days, regattas, fundraisers, or serving on a committee.  If you wish not to volunteer, you can buy out your hours for $20/hour.  This can be done on the IRC Annual Membership Registration page or pay by check to IRC.  A list of volunteer positions is listed below, but new opportunities emerge often!  Email volunteer@indyrowing.org and our volunteer coordinator will help you get involved!

TWO TYPES OF VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED:

Event volunteers:  This is a half or full day committment at IRC hosted regattas.  Opportunities include on-the-water and land positions at regattas.  Training is provided prior to the event.

Key Events: Indianapolis Indoor Rowing Championships (annual event), MACRA (2013), Big Ten Womens Rowing Championships (2012, 2013), Head of the Eagle (annual event); Bids for national events

Committee volunteers:  This is a year-long commitment with monthly or bi-monthly meetings that offer volunteers the opportunity to significantly influence the rowing community!

IRC committees are chaired by IRC Board Members.  Each committee sets its agenda for the year, and meets approximately every other month.  Volunteers are needed for the following committees and are expected to attend the committee meetings.
