JEN KAIDO NAMED IRC INTERIM DIRECTOR

The Indianapolis Rowing Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of 2008 Olympian and four-time National Team Rower Jennifer Kaido as Interim Executive Director effective September 1, 2011.

“As an Olympian, Jennifer brings deep credibility and expertise in world-class rowing to Indy,” said David Carter, Chair of the IRC Board of Directors.  “Jennifer benefits from the great momentum the IRC Board and volunteers have created in the past year, and I am confident that Jennifer will build on our recent national and local success as we continue to develop our community programming and facilities”.

Jennifer began rowing her senior year at Cornell University before joining the Saugatuck Rowing Club to train with coach James Mangan.  In the fall of 2004, she moved to Princeton, NJ to train with the US Women’s National Rowing Team under the direction of head coach Tom Terhaar. Jennifer is a three-time World Championship medalist in the quadruple sculls, and competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  Originally from West Leyden, New York, she is looking forward to moving to the Midwest.

“Indianapolis seems like a great place to live and work, and an excellent place to row,”  she said. “When I saw the course and finish tower, I was impressed–very few cities in the country can claim such a venue and such extensive community programming. IRC has hosted a number of key events this year and has a vibrant group of volunteers and program participants. I look forward to meeting the community.”

In addition to her director duties, Jennifer will be coaching this fall at IRC. Registration for her fall sculling classes is now open:
