IRC welcomes new members of all experience and interest levels. IRC Members are individuals who support the goals of the organization by paying annual dues and volunteering at IRC events. Members include community members, ex-rowers, current rowers and families of rowers. There is no requirement for membership–just a desire to learn more and to support this organization and its mission!
Note: IRC IS NOT A RENTAL FACILITY. All property in the IRC boathouse is owned by IRC or by IRC supporting members.
IRC Annual Membership
Benefits:
IRC Memberships keep this organization alive! A portion of your membership directly supports the programming, coaching, administration, facilities, equipment, and community outreach efforts at IRC. The remaining operation costs are covered by grants and donations. IRC members have use of the Indianapolis Rowing Center, including the indoor rowing machines, boats and oars as participants in an IRC class or program, or outside these program hours as the equipment is available. Please note that safety is our top priority and all members must abide by the IRC safety guidelines. All members must have a swim test on file. Members wishing to take boats out individually must have passed a “flip test”—showing that they have the ability to get back into a flipped boat without assistance.
Boats for qualified members’ use include the recreational rowing shells used for Learn-to-Row classes (except when they are in use by a class), club racing singles which are designated by hot pink bows, club double sculls, and quadruple sculls. Coxed team boats are also available to use with pre-approval from the boathouse manager or a coach. Use of any club boat is contingent on the member’s rowing ability and coach’s discretion. Use of club boats is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Club boats may not be removed from IRC. All members must sign in and sign out in the log book when rowing. Members receive a discounted rate on IRC classes
Cost:
Single adult – $300 for the year
College student (current college or graduate student, or graduated within the past 12 months) – $200 for the year
Household – $300 for the first adult plus $150 for each additional adult or college student
Memberships are not prorated. Membership discounts may be offered at Labor Day for new members. Individuals taking two classes (Learn to Row 1 and 2, and/or Intermediate Sculling) in a year are also granted a free IRC membership for the remainder of the year. Members wishing to join the Masters Program on a monthly basis may do so at $50/month.
Requirements:
IRC Members are asked to volunteer 8 hours at IRC hosted events, boathouse clean-up days, fundraisers, or any other volunteer opportunities. IRC greatly appreciates all of our volunteers and it’s a great way to give back to the organization.
Program Options for Members:
Members have the option of joining the masters program or the adult rowing program. Both programs meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:15pm – 7:30pm. The Masters Program is a more competitve racing program while the Adult Rowing program is non-competitive, recreational program.
Members with their own boats:
Members have the opportunity to rent rack space in the boathouse as it is available. In order to use a rack space, boat owners must be IRC members ($300 annual fee). IRC is not a rental facility and does not have space available for general rental. A single scull rental space is $175 for the year. A double scull rental space is $200 for the year. A Personal Boat Owner Rack Rental Agreement needs to be signed and returned to IRC by May 15, 2012.
Volunteering:
IRC brings a number of national regattas to the City of Indianapolis. IRC works with the Indiana Sports Corp to secure volunteers for these events. IRC members receive first choice of volunteer positions at regattas and can count their hours toward their membership requirement of 8 volunteer hours per year. Members who wish to buy out their volunteer hours may also do so on the annual registration form. Members not completing their hours by the end of the membership year will be invoiced at the rate of $20/hour. Please note: some programs carry additional volunteer requirements (Masters – 8 hours; Adults – 4 hours).
Community Spirit:
IRC is the heart of Indianapolis’ rowing community which includes amatuer sports enthusiasts, our families, friends, and donors, present and former rowers, rowers from the many Indiana colleges, teens from more than 17 area schools, teens from our RowIndy program, partnerships with area businesses, visiting competitors and spectators, our staff and our board of directors. IRC is one of the country’s top rowing venues and will host over 5000 visiting competitors in 2012 alone! IRC welcomes you to this community! We encourage you to join one of the manyvolunteer committees or to join us in hosting major national events. This is your organization. Please help it grow and thrive!
Scholarships:
Scholarships and Financial support is available for individuals showing financial need. During registration, sign up as a scholarship applicant and submit your application for aid to the Executive Director or Coach or mail to IRC (PO Box 53223, Indianapolis, IN 46253). The deadline for scholarships is April 15th, or 2 weeks after you register for an annual membership.
Schedule:
Membership occurs on a March to March basis. The Indianapolis Rowing Center facility is open from mid-March until November 1st. Rowing is prohibited once the facility has been winterized and the docks have been removed from the water.
Classes:
Classes are open to all adults and are offered Mid-March through September. Click here for a schedule of upcoming spring and summer classes. For individuals taking two classes, a free annual membership is provided for the remainder of the year.
Eagle Creek Park:
The Indianapolis Rowing Center is fortunate to be located in Eagle Creek Park. Our members are expected to abide by all park regulations, including paying admission for park entry ($5/vehicle), and keeping dogs on a leash. It is recommended that members purchase a season pass for park entry or make a suitable donation to the Eagle Creek Park Foundation which includes a park pass.
