All youth ages 12-18 are welcome to join us this winter! No experience necessary! Winter is an excellent time to learn the basics of rowing, improve your fitness, and meet the team before the spring season starts! The IRC juniors represent 17 area schools and include students ages 12-18 (though most are 14-17 years old). Visit our junior program page to learn more about IRC juniors.
Junior winter training begins December 1st at the Riviera Club (5640 North Illinois Street). Since the IRC boathouse is not winterized, IRC has arranged for indoor rowing space within the Rivi sports buildings. Youth do not need a Rivi membership to participate, though IRC does charge a winter training fee– a portion of which is paid to Rivi as a “usage fee.” Rivi members are invited to join the juniors as well– the usage fee is waived for Rivi members, as you will see on the registration form.
To register your junior rower for winter training, please follow this link and complete the online registration.
Junior workouts are scheduled daily for two hours. We are excited to announce that we have added a number of new classes and workout options to the training!
This year, each athlete will participate in at least one TRX and one Yoga class per week! On days that the athletes are not participating in Yoga or TRX, they will be rowing on the erg machines, or going on team runs.
TRX is really cool, and if you don’t know what it is, you should read up about it atwww.trxtraining.com
Winter training will start on December 1st, 2011 at the Riviera Club in Broad Ripple, 5640 N. Illinois St. www.rivi.org. We will not be doing A and B sessions as we did last year. This year, we have rented a much larger space, and we expect all athletes to be at practice for the full duration. Here is the practice schedule for winter training:
Monday: 4-6
Tuesday: 4-6
Wednesday: 4-6
Thursday: 4-6
Friday: 4-6
Saturday: 8-9
Please remember that we offer scholarships for the winter seasons also!
We hope that all Fall athletes return to train with us this winter. Winter training is an invaluable tool for our success this Spring.
