Volunteer at IRC!
We’re looking for volunteers as we welcome athletes to our venue!
Here you will learn a little bit about what we do, and you'll find the signups for our upcoming needs. IRC provides the venue, the equipment, and the volunteers to hold regattas. In the spring, we hold sprint races (2,000M), and in the fall, we hold head races (5,000M).
In order for us to host events we need a lot of volunteers! This is where you come in. Whether you are a rower, parent, brother, sister, neighbor, or friend, all are welcome!
ALL support positions are staffed by VOLUNTEERS! They are busy year-round: planning, coordinating, repairing, fundraising, & coaching. Besides our staff, the Board of Directors (volunteers too), and our part-time coaches (most of whom have full-time jobs), all help with our events. Depending on the size of the regatta it could have 100+ volunteer spots to fill. Our volunteers help with planning, organizing, and running the events. In addition to the regattas, there are “IRC Boathouse Workdays” in the months, weeks, and days leading up to regattas.
Often, one of our greatest volunteer needs is Launch Drivers. Launch drivers, for the most part, follow each race from the start to the finish. It’s a great way to see the races! A referee will be in the boat with you and let you know exactly what to do and when to do it. Before you can sign up to drive a launch you need to go through our launch driver training sessions. We hold training sessions every season so check back often for updates.
If Launch Driving is not your cup of tea – there are plenty of other volunteer positions available. Most positions have “on-the-job training” and if they need an experienced volunteer, it will be indicated on the signup.
You don’t have to limit yourself to just one shift either! Many do two or more shifts – it’s exciting and fun, and it all goes to a good cause!
Come see this exciting sport up close and volunteer today!
Booster Parents
The Booster's primary mission is to support our junior team. Their role, during regattas (home and away), is to keep your athlete hydrated, fed, and as comfortable as possible.
The Boosters do a great job and as new rowers join IRC, it is imperative that the new parents get involved and begin learning the ins and outs of being a Booster. The volunteer requests from the Boosters are to man the Athlete support tent present at all regattas and to do the pre- and post-organization/cleanup needed before and after each regatta. As we get closer to the home regatta days, you will see requests from the Boosters to help – no experience is necessary, just a willingness to help. We do on the job training.
IRC runs on volunteers (you the reader and your family/friends…). Please watch for volunteer sign-ups and help where and when you can. All are welcome!
