Learn to Row Classes for Adults

Learn to Row Classes

No experience necessary! Rowing is a great total body, low impact fitness workout that uses 85% of your muscles. It is a lifelong sport!

The Indianapolis Rowing Center offers Learn-to-Row classes for new rowers and programs for experienced rowers. Adult Learn-to-Row (LTR) is an introductory class for adults to the sport of rowing. Over the course of the month (total of 8 classes), IRC coaches will teach you proper rowing technique on the rowing machine and on the water, as well as educate you on rowing terminology, safety, and teamwork.

LTR is month long course (8 sessions) offered in May, June, August, and September on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15-8 pm.

The focus will be in eight-person (sweep, one oar per person) boats.

Graduates of this class can continue down the following paths.

  • Learn to Scull Class - This class will be taught several times during the summer, and will focus on teaching participants how to scull (two oars per person) in smaller boats. Perfect for the athlete that is wanting to learn how to row on their own. Once Learn-to-Scull has been completed, athletes can continue to row independently as boathouse members or may join our Technical Masters Program where they will have the option to continue sweep and scull in a team environment.
  • Technical Masters Program - Upon completing Learn to Scull, participants will be able to move directly to our Masters Technical Program where they will be able to continue rowing in sweep boats in a team environment.

Learn to Scull class session dates TBD

Masters Technical Program sessions are held on Mondays & Thursdays (6:15-8:15 pm) and Saturdays (10-12 am).

A USRowing Basic Membership is required to participate. Use Club Code when registering: U7B9H
