Lup Lup Gallop

Audrey Lupton touched many lives during her 17 years. One community that was fortunate to be part of that special circle of friends was the Indianapolis Rowing Junior team. As Coach Mike Burroughs wrote when he had the difficult task of telling the IRC community of Audrey’s death in July 2017, “while she was very much a lightweight when it came to rowing, her battle with cancer over the last few months showed that behind the small frame was the heart and spirit of a true competitor. Audrey has shown us that we each have so much more fight in us that we can ever imagine.”

To honor Audrey’s spirit and to continue her example of making the world a better place, the IRC board has established the Audrey Lupton Scholarship Fund to help ensure that money is not a barrier to participate in the sport of rowing.  To that end, the Indianapolis Rowing Center hosted the 3rd Annual Lup Lup Gallup 5K at University High School on October 26th, 2019. The 2020 Lup Lup Gallup had to be canceled, but plans in are the works to hold the 4th Annual Lup Lup Gallup in the fall of 2021.

We believe that rowing is transformational. Through rowing kids not only develop fitness and friendships, but lifelong skills of discipline, collaboration, and leadership. Audrey exemplified the core values of IRC, and we hope that the scholarship is an enduring legacy to Audrey’s memory.
